PSV BUSAN (1-2) Inter Busan : FT Report
PSV Busan fall 2-1 to upset-minded Inter Busan.
It was a mismatch on paper as PSV Busan came into today's game riding an 8-game winning streak and were at the top the league standings.
Both teams were missing some key players as Inter Busan were without Adam Griffin, probably the most talented player in the league. PSV Busan were without 2 of their best goal scorers in Won-gil Kim and Craig Smith as well as their best outside defender in Jin Jang.
So, was it going to be another lopsided victory for PSV Busan? Well, that’s why we play the games.
Inter Busan came into the game hungry, full of energy and eager to show what they're made of against the league leaders. The stage was set for the upset from the very start as PSV Busan were cocky and not motivated for the game. “Let’s get on with this game, get our 3 points and go home as we’ve got a busy night ahead.” was the attitude amongst many of the PSV players who acted like the 3 points were already won.
The upset was the biggest in Inter Busan's history, because they've never beaten a team in first place and had so much bad luck in the past.
``I keep asking everybody, `Is it real?''' said manager Paul Edwards. ``It's a big-time win. I can't believe it.''
The win kept Inter Busan from the basement as Real Busan went on to beat the Won Shots from Ulsan by a score of 5-0 in the later game.
Inter Busan Goal#1: (0-1)
Inter Busan sent a ball into the box and there’s a mix-up between the PSV defender and the goalkeeper. The keeper called for the ball but the PSV defender misplayed the ball and sent it straight to an Inter Busan striker. Gaz Morgan made no mistake and chipped the ball over Don and a 1-0 lead.
Inter Busan Goal#2: (0-2)
John was pressing up and found himself way up field when the counter attack started. Simon, the Inter Busan striker, had a breakaway from the right side of the field at about the center line. Not sure why the PSV sweeper wasn’t able to catch up to him and cut off the angle but next thing you know, he’s only about 15 yards out and has a clean strike on net. It was a nice low shot past Don, who could do nothing about the shot. Well, not entirely true as Don didn’t even try to make the save.
PSV BUSAN Goal#1: (1-2)
Stoney crossed a ball into the right side of the box and Michael let it drop and half-volleyed the ball passed the Inter Busan keeper.
The late goal seemed to finally get PSV Busan going as they controlled the ball for the remaining 10 minutes of the game and had a few more good scoring chances. Tomo had an excellent shot from about 25 yards out that hit the post and bounced wide. A few scrambles in from of the net and it was unbelievable that the ball didn’t go in. Matthew had a shot from about 6 yards out that somehow went over the diving goalie but over the crossbar as well.
In the end, it was too little too late and PSV’s winning streak came to a disappointing end.
Although we hate to lose, it was a result we needed as a fire's been lit under our arses. Before it seemed like PSV were more interested in winning the "Most Sportsmanship Award" rather than winning the games as players were just not intense enough. Finally, PSV are fired up for a non-Real Busan game and with Won-gil, Craig and Jin back for the rematch, it should be a much different result.
Game Notes:
-Not a good game, as we came out light hearted thinking that this would be an easy win. Inter did it well, kicking and fighting us off, although a lot of their complaining ruined the atmosphere.
-We lost, and we'll move on from there. We missed out on Craig, Wongil, Jin and a few others. Also missing Ken hurt us since he plays hard when he plays and that’s what was missing today.
